Summary

The Ropkata region, also known by its geographical name, the Hvoynenska Basin, is an extremely interesting and important Rhodope region in terms of culture and language. It is located in the northeastern branch of the Western Rhodopes, occupying the central parts of the Chepelarska River valley. The population of the Ropkata region has an incredibly rich material and spiritual culture and speaks one of the most archaic Rhodope dialects, which is an important link in the tightly knit chain of dialects in the Bulgarian language area. With its main linguistic features, it connects the Thracian and central Rhodope dialects, some of which, for political reasons, are now outside the state borders (in Greece and Turkey). To a large extent, this dialect has preserved an older form of our language to this day, and it is no coincidence that L. Miletich began his study of the Rhodope dialects with it, devoting a lengthy description to it. Following the publication of the monograph "The Dialect of Ropkata. Rhodope Grammar" by Sl. Keremidchieva, this dictionary complements the linguistic picture of the Ropkata dialect, thus making it the first contemporary and comprehensively researched Rhodope dialect at all linguistic levels: phonological, morphological, and lexical. With its rich authentic material, the Ropkata Dictionary will undoubtedly be a necessary and reliable lexical database for all scholars who, with scientific integrity, defend the truth about the Bulgarian origin and language of the homogeneous population living in the Rhodope region within and outside our national borders.
