Summary
The Frequency Dictionary of Bulgarian Journalism is based on a sample of half a million text units extracted from the pages of major Bulgarian daily newspapers from the 1960s and 1970s. It consists of three parts: a complete word-form alphabetical list with data on frequencies, the arithmetic mean, and the standard deviation; a ranked list of lexemes with a frequency greater than or equal to 10; and a complete word-form reverse frequency dictionary organized by parts of speech. The three parts of the dictionary provide material for comprehensive linguistic-statistical research, accurately outlining the usage of vocabulary, word-formation types, and morphological categories in the texts of a single decade, and to a large extent, the general trends characteristic of the language of newspapers from 1944 to 1989. The material in the Frequency Dictionary can be used as a database for a wide range of synchronic and diachronic studies.
